Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most durable socks on the market. I have been wearing my first pair of Hike Medium Crews for 10 years!  I wear these all the time; running, working, kayaking, chores.  Summer or Winter.  Anything and everything I do is in a pair of Hike Medium Crews.  They are always the right temperature.  They look like they would be too warm for summer days, but they regulate the temperature perfectly.  They are not too warm on hot days, in fact they keep my feet cool and dry.  They allow my feet to breathe and I love them for it. Please note:  I am a SmartWool employee, but I have only been an employee for three years and I have been wearing these socks for ten.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I thought socks were just socks. I was wrong. I've never cared or thought much about socks, until my wife got me a couple of pairs of these a while back.  I have to say my feet have never been so happy.  We live in Southern California, and I thought that wool socks would make my feet way too hot in a warm climate - but these keep my feet cooler than any polyester or cotton sock every has. They're incredibly comfortable, cool when they need to be cool, and warm when they need to warm.  Until these, I'd always just bought socks like... well... like they were all the same.  I've never been happier to be proven wrong, and love, love, love these socks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Military I am currently deployed in the US Army, serving in the mountain regions of Afghanistan. I had owned these socks prevoious to deployment, and wore them out because I loved them so much. Before I deployed I stocked up on a fresh inventory. So glad I did. I don't do cold, and if my feet are cold, I'm cold - and there's nothing I can do to get warm at that point. These socks are lifesavers. Feet stay warm, dry and comfortable, even in temps as low as -10. If only the rest of our standard issue gear were so good!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did you think I would not notice? I have been wearing Smartwooll exclusively for over 20 years. I guess they thought I would not notice they keep reducing the wool while going up on price continually! When I started wearing these socks they had 83% wool, they have kept reducing the wool and now are down to 66%! I guess I will look for another brand of REAL wool socks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I adore these socks! I wear them every season except summer and then I will wear them hiking in the summer (especially hiking Katadin this year). They are always comfortable; not too hot and never cold. They last for years and are especially good for me as I am a visiting nurse in a very rural part of Connecticut. I have to shovel myself into and out of driveways and go into houses that are too hot (above 70) and are a little chilly when you are out of range of the wood stove. They have never failed me and have not worn out in over 4 years of wear. I recently bought 5 more pair of the medium hiker socks so I never have to be without them. I also have 3 pair of the heavy duty hiker socks for snowshoeing. Love them! Love them! Love them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Love Love these socks! I have searched high and low for the perfect warm pair of socks.  I found warm ones but, they were too thick.  I found thinner ones but they were not warm enough.  These are just right!  I have had my first pair for over 2 years now and they are showing almost no sign of wear.  I asked for 2 more paris for Christmas and plan to keep adding more to my collection. I will never buy another brand of socks again.  I wore them horseback riding in the mountains last weekend and my toes were toasty warm while everyone else's froze!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hiking Sock I have become a big fan of Smartwool socks since I first tried them in 2005. Even though I know they're wool, my feet don't know it - great comfort without any itch. My whole opinion of wool has changed. I have used these socks for many years - since 2005. They are a medium weight sock well suited to a day hiking or light backpacking with lightweight boots. They wear well and offer good cushioning. For extended backpacking with heavier boot/shoes, I prefer the Smartwool Trekking heavy crew as heavier sock with increased cushioning. Both these socks offer enough "give" that you can easily wear a liner sock if you so desire.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs more Sheep! After 20 years of trusting this product, I would have rather had a price increase than the wool reduction. These socks were the absolute best when they were over 80% wool. Four season comfort and lasted for years and hundreds of miles... which must have been the problem that mandated the solution of reducing wool content. These are now three season socks, because that's as long as they'll last and they aren't quite warm enough for our winters.
