Rated 3 out of 5 by from Definitely not waterproof. Water resistant at best. Will soak up water in real rain longer than 10 minutes. It is breathable, which is nice. I see some of these comments praising the waterproofing of this jacket, and as a landscaper I needed something I can wear and stay out in the elements. But after buying this jacket and the pants, I don’t understand how anybody is happy with this. Like Sam from Spokane said earlier in the thread, the jacket is water RESISTANT, at best. In real rain, it’ll be saturated like any other jacket in 10 min. I needed something waterproof AND breathable, like advertised. Sadly it’s only the latter. Is there a better waterproof jacket you offer ? I really can’t/ don’t want the rubberized gear as I get too hot and will pass out. Please help if possible.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not great for heavy rain We're having an unusually wet spring and I ordered this jacket after getting rained out or drenched during farm chores for a straight week. It works great as a windbreaker and is sufficiently water repellent for light rain, but thirty minutes in heavy rain yesterday completely saturated it. My wife got another Carhartt raincoat that is not much heavier material but is significantly more waterproof. I think that the lower resistance to downpour is probably just the price you pay for having a "breathable" fabric. Only other complaint is the fit of the hood, which I can nearly pull down to my chin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Rainwear My years of searching for a functional, yet attractive rain jacket has finally come to an end! This is the perfect combination of a true waterproof rain jacket that feels and looks awesome. I've tried numerous Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear and North Face jackets, and none are close to this Carhartt jacket - they either look good but let water penetrate through, or feel like you're wearing a garbage bag. And to top it all off, it's an awesome value! It runs slightly large, so I would recommend ordering down if you're in between two sizes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not at all waterproof Not only is this jacket not waterproof, it soaked up the rain and was heavy as a result of it. Wore this in a moderate to light rain shower in the Monongahela in West Virginia. I am typically very happy with Carhartt and own many items, and will keep buying in the future, but this jacket should not be bought by anyone hoping for a waterproof/water resistant jacket. It is neither. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This jacket is just what I was looking for. I'm 5'8 and 160 lbs. Medium fits great. Keeps me cool and dry during a storm in the mid 70s. It's not as tough as their duck fabric, but I trust it to work around some rough jobs. I wore it in a heavy rain for over 2 hours and stayed dry. If you have to be out in a downpour any longer than that, I would recommend something else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Waterproof at All Very nice looking jacket that is light. That’s about it going for this jacket. It is not by any means waterproof or going to keep you dry in medium to heavy rain. All the water seems to soak into the jacket and makes for a very sticky and uncomfortable wear. Was expecting more from this jacket and I was disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Overall, this rain jacket is great. Fits a tad big, but that's alright for the most part. The hood is giant though. Have worn it is light to moderate rainfalls and have stayed warm and dry throughout working in both. Great jacket for the money! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from mixed impression on this jacket I like this jacket overall but do have a serious problem with the lining. The 'rubberized' surface means that it is very difficult to get this garment on over anything with a texture, such as a fleece or sweatshirt. I have yet to test it in a full downpour; so far the waterproofing seems good.
